Bennett was born in 1848 as he is on the 1860 US census living with his parents, Robert and Cyrena Powell and his siblings, Katharine, Sarah and John in 16th District, Wayne, Tennessee, United States. [1]

in 1864, aged 19yrs he is serving in the Tennessee 2nd Regiment of Mounted Infantry (Union army). [2]

Bennett Powell married Margaret Holt on 30 May 1866 in Wayne, Tennessee, US. [3] The index shows her surname as Hath. [4]

In the 1870 US census, he is living at Big Flat Township, Searcy, Arkansas, United States; aged 24 yrs with an estimated birth year of 1846 and with his wife Margaret. [5]

Bennett Powell was 34 yrs old in the 1880 US census. His wife was 30yr old Margaret and they had 4 children then: Arsena (12yrs), Sarah J (10yrs), John R (6yrs) and Mary Idar (2yrs). All except Sarah were born in Tennessee, US [6]

In 1890, he appears on US pension records after retiring from the army, infantry. [7]

Bennett died in June 1901 in Timbo, Stone County, Arkansas, USA buried on 14 June [8] Bio info on Find a Grave conflicts year of death 1900/1901. Suggestion on bio he has a middle name of Preston.
