Biography

Clara (Powell) Stephens was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Clara Marion Isobel Powell was born in 25th February 1874 in Tyndale, New South Wales (Australia). She was the eighth of ten children of George Richmond Powell and Mary Small. [1] She was a great granddaughter of First Fleet convicts, John Small (1761-1850) and Mary Parker (c1758-1824), Second Fleeter George Patfield (1763-1809), and 1793 convict arrival, Mary O'Brien (c1772-1853).

Clara married Charles Stephens on 26th September 1906 in St Paul's Church of England (now Anglican Church), Byron Bay, New South Wales. [2] Making their home in nearby Bangalow, the couple had a daughter and five sons.

Aged 76 years, Clara passed away on 7th November 1950 in Bangalow and is buried in Bangalow Cemetery. [3]
