In the 1871 Census, Samuel (age 14) was listed as the son of George Powell in Oldland, Bitton, Somerset, England. Samuels's mother died in 1868, and was not listed with the family. Per the census, the birthdate of Samuel would be in 1857^[1]

The Samuel Powell, son of William, is listed in the 1871 Census, as follows. This marriage may be for a similar Samuel Powell.

The Samuel Powell who married Emily Harding, was the son of William Powell. Emily, daughter of Thomas Harding, married Samuel Powell on 2 August 1880 in Bitton, St Mary, Gloucestershire, England. Samuel is listed as the son of William Powell.^[2]

In the 1881 Census, Samuel (age 34), is listed as a Coal Miner. He was the married son-in-law of Ann Harding in Oldland (Gloucs), Somerset, England. Ann Harding is the mother of his wife, Emily Harding (age 32) who is listed with Samuel. Ann and Emily are staymakers.^[3]

In the 1871 census Samuel (age 24), Coal Miner, was the son of William Powel in Somerset, England.^[4]
