Eliza was born about 1838, to John & Mary Power/Powers in Ireland. Her name is listed as "Powers" on her marriage certificate, and age given as 35 in 1873. Eliza Power was Richard Porter's second wife. Their children were:
1. Elizabeth Bernadette, b. August 8, 1874 and d. June 11, 1956 at 37 Winthrop St., Charlestown. She married Richard F. Murphy of Charlestown on Oct 12, 1905. He died June 17, 1948. He was the retired manager of the Charlestown District of the Boston Consolidated Gas Company.
2. Sarah Veronica, b. August 14, 1877 and d. Aug 23, 1952 in Boston Hospital, following a long illness.
"Elizabeth and Sarah followed in the footsteps of their half-sister Catherine and taught in the Boston public schools (Charlestown district) after also graduating from Boston Normal School. Both were 'ahead' of their time, as their interest was in special education before such a department was recognized. Elizabeth taught the 'ungraded' class in which both brilliant and less adaptable pupils received individual attention and instruction. Sarah was preparing through special college classes for an anticipated new department when she became ill.[1]
Eliza died March 19, 1903 of an apparent embolus. Her death record lists her maiden name as Powers, and age at death as 60, which would make her birthdate around 1843. She is buried at Holy Cross cemetery, in Malden.
