Biography

Frederick Tyrone Edmond Power Sr. was an English-born American stage and screen actor, known professionally as Tyrone Power. He is now usually referred to as Tyrone Power Sr. to differentiate him from his son, Hollywood actor and heartthrob Tyrone Power. He appeared in 41 films from 1914 to 1930.[1]

He was born 2 May 1869 in London, the son of the stage actors Harold Power and Ethel Lavenu.

He was married to Edith Carne 19 September 1898 in Manhattan, New York City.[2] Two years later his father died. His wife, Edith, died 3 January 1912 in Manhattan.[3]

He was married to Helen Emma Reaume 10 June 1912 in Clinton, New York.[4] They were the parents of two children, Tyrone Edmund Power III, born 1914, and Anne Lavenue Power, born 1915.

His mother, Ethel Laveneu, died 14 August 1917 in London when Tyrone was 48 years of age.

He married Bertha Knight 17 February 1921 in Union Hill, New Jersey. Bertha died a few years later in 1927.[5]

Tyrone Sr.'s death came 23 December 1931 in Los Angeles, California. He was 62.[6][7][8]

Obituary:[9]

Famous Stage Star Dies After Starting Role in "Miracle Man."
Hollywood, Cal., Dec. 30 (AP)--tyrone Power, 62, descendant of one of England's most famous stage families and himself a dramatic actor of renown, died unexpectedly with a heart attack here Wednesday in his club rooms.
He succumbed but three weeks after his arrival here from New York to re-enter films after forty-five years before the footlights.
Power suffered a heart attack about 4 a.m. dying two hours later despite emergency medical treatment. His son, Tyrone Jr., was at the bedside.
Three weeks ago, Power cam to Hollywood to play the title role in "The Miracle Man," famous picture of silent days, and about a week's work had been completed. Most of the actor's life had been devoted to the stage, although he played the villain last year in a Talkie, "The big Trail," and had appeared in silent films during the pioneer days of the motion picture.
He rose to fame in New York more than two decades ago, winning widespread attention in Shakespearean plays.
Power was born in London Aug. 2 1869. He was graduated from Dover College, England, and shortly thereafter came to America, but as an orange grower, not an actor.
Besides his son, he is survived by a daughter, Anne, and a former wife, mother of his children, Patia Power, once an actress and now head of a dramatic school in Cincinnati. Funeral plans have not been announced.
