Biography

Jonas Powers was born July 19, 1719 in Littleton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, a son of Jacob Powers and Edith Adams. He married Mary Tryon on April 12, 1739 in Middleton Connecticut; they had ten noted children. Jonas joined the Connecticut Army May 4, 1760, which turned out to be near the end of the French and Indian War. He served in Colonel Nathan Whiting’s 2nd Regiment and Captain Ichabod Scranton’s 5th Company. Records report Jonas was killed in action September 8, 1760. The 2nd Regiment at that time was quartered at Fort No. 4, located on the Connecticut River in New Hampshire, the northernmost British settlement. There is no information regarding his interment.
