Biography

William Powers was born in Ireland, about 1813, married Mary Byrnes (Burns) who was also born in Ireland. The marriage was in Burlington in 1838, so they immigrated to the US sometime prior to 1838 marriage records are at: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V8MG-YB3 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XFN5-18H

The 1840 census which doesn't list family names, has a William Powers in Colchester age between 20-30 as head of household. Also, lists a Robert Powers as head of household under the age of 20.

The census of 1850 has family listed as Ellen 10, Robert 9, Richard 6, Harriet 4, and Mary 1 month. ^[1]

The census of 1860 has listed him as a farmer in Colchester, Vermont. Family consisted of wife Mary 48, Robert 19, Richard 17, Harriet 15, Mary 8, all of whom were born in Vermont. The value of his farm was $2500 and personal property had a value of $400.^[2]

This is the last census where the family appears.
