Biography

Lydia was born April 19, 1787, daughter of Jonas and Jerusha (Harmon) Powers. Her family had come from Vermont and eventually settled in the eastern part of Virginia. She was the youngest of ten children, three of whom married Newberry men. Lydia married James Allen Newberry about 1805 in Wythe County, Va. He was born in 1775 in Montgomery County, the son of Samuel and Bethiah (Begley) Newberry. Lydia passed away in 1870 in Maries County, Missouri. Children of James and Lydia:
