Biography
Alma Clayton Powers was born in Nov 1899 per the 1900 US Census record.
[1] She was the daughter of Marion Powers and Causby Hale and is also seen with her parents and siblings in the 1910 US census.[2]
Alma married William Lee Allen about 1915. Details of the marriage are unknown. William and Alma resided in Butler county, Ohio in 1920 with two children.[3] A son, George William Allen was born right after the 1920 census enumeration in February. He died within days of his first birthday in 1921.[4] He is buried at Middletown Cemetery, Butler County, Ohio.
[5]
William was a laborer at a paper mill. They relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio by 1930 where William was a butcher. They also had a fourth child.[6]
In 1932 Alma and William were residing on LaFayette Ave. in Middletown, Ohio, perhaps because of Alma's health problems and the need for help with child care. Alma died of a chronic kidney condition with heart disorder at Middletown on 22 Aug 1932. She was 31 years old.[7]
She is buried at Middletown Cemetery, Butler County, Ohio.
[8]
Five years after Alma's death, William remarried Rose J (Schlottman) Bruns at Hamilton county, Ohio on Jan 10, 1937.[9]
William died on 22 Feb 1970. His death and burial details are uncertain.[10]
Research Notes
Alma's birth date was in November 1899 as noted in the 1900 census. This conflicts wth the death certificate (22 Aug 1901) and the grave marker (22 Oct 1900). The date of the 22nd appears to be correct, but cannot be confirmed by source.
