Research Notes

The Powers family moved to North Carolina from Virginia before the Revolutionary War. The first appearance of John Powers in records of Chatham County, North Carolina, was in 1784 (Chatham County, N.C., Deed Book N, pages 246-248.) He appeared frequently in the records of that county from that time until his death in 1799. An inventory of his estate was dated 29 June 1799, David Powers, Administrator (Chatham County, Will Book A, page 8.) John Powers married Susannah. Her maiden name is not known. She died after 18 October 1802, when a deed was recorded in her name in Chatham County, North Carolina (Deed Book N, pages 244-245.) Children of John Powers in Chatham County, North Carolina Deed Book L, pages 296-297, were listed, and there may have been others.

Caroline is the daughter of my GGGG granparents. Her father was John Powers, mother was Susannah ? They lived in Chatham county, N.C. I would love to find her mother's maiden name.
