Biography

May (or Mae) Lavina Prail was born in August 12, 1876 in Mahaska, Iowa. She is the daughter of John L. Prail and Serina Ann Carver.

In the 1880 census Lavina (a.k.a. May Lavina) was the daughter of John T. Prail and Serina A. Carver in Belmont Township, Phillips, Kansas, United States.^[1]

On June 30, 1892, May Lavina Prail (about 16 yrs. old) married Robert Lappin Wilson in Phillips County, Kansas.

In the 1900 census May (born August 1876 ) was the wife of Robert L Wilson (born June 1871) in Logan & Towanda Townships Logan city, Phillips, Kansas, United States. The census shows they'd been married for 8 years, had 2 children and 1 was still living. They were renting their farm.^[2]

In the 1910 census May (age 33) was the wife of Robert L Wilson in Towanda, Phillips, Kansas, United States. This census shows they had been married for 17 years, had 3 children and 2 were still living. This census incorrectly shows May's birth place as Missouri.^[3]

Melvina Carver Stanton and Michael M. Stanton were the Aunt and Uncle of May Wilson (Melvina and May's mother Serina were sisters). Maude Stanton Dawes was May's cousin. The child in the picture postcard from 1914 shown below may have been May's son Albert James Wilson.

In the 1920 census Mae (age 44) was the wife of Robert L Wilson in Logan, Phillips, Kansas, United States. This census shows they owned their farm, free of mortgage. Their daughter Alta (divorced) and her children were living with them . ^[4]

In the 1930 census May L. (age 54) and Robert L. (58) were renting their home for $15/month in Tipton, Tulare, California, United States. Robert was working as a grape farm laborer.^[5]

In the 1940 census May (63) and R L Wilson were living in Tulare Judicial Township, Tulare, California, United States. Robert was working as a gardener.^[6]

May, daughter of (father) Praill and (mother) Carver, died (age 77) on December 14, 1953 in Tulare, California, United States. She was buried in Tulare Cemetery. Find A Grave: Memorial #45799792.^[7][8]
