In 1577, Humphrey received a bequest in the will of his father Richard. [1]
In 1586, a Star Chamber case named Humphrey as a defendant. The charges included pulling down of hedges, various assaults on one Richard Mawdley by Humphrey and his brothers Richard, and Thomas Prater, including some with swords, dagger, buckler and a 7 foot long staff; and beating the said Mawdley until he was wounded and in danger of death! [2]
In the 34th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (Nov 1591-Nov 1592) Humphrey was fined, along with his mother, brother Richard and sister Grace as a recusant. They were fined £500. [3]
