Biography

Nancy was born in 1787. Nancy Prather ... She passed away in 1870.[1]

Research Notes

Estimated date of birth as 1787 (see comment I added to this page for source basis). If accurate, 1787 would indicate Nancy Prather was 2 years younger than her husband Samuel Slye, and ~19 when she gave birth to their eldest known child, Amelia Slye.

Note that John Slye is currently shown as a half brother, only one year older than Amelia. That might indicate only that John, who was added by a different WikiTree member, might have been unknown to the profile manager who added Nancy and Amelia Prather, and the user who added John was unable to verify the mother. Even if Nancy were the mother of John Prather, she would have been ~18 at his birth, which seems entirely reasonable. - George Fagin

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Nancy by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Nancy:

Kara,

I just received my most recent WikiTree family news email this morning, with a link to the Data Doctor's list of suggestions for changes I'm requested to make. Top of the list is "Mother too young or not born for Nancy Prather, née Slye and her daughter, Nancy Fagin née Prather".

Reviewing it, I see that I'd posted the preceding comment here 10 months ago, suggesting a probable date for Nancy Prather's birth. I don't know how or why you posted her daughter's d.o.b. when creating this profile; it's an easy mistake to make when viewing old records - I've done the same myself, and had to correct them later. Or it might even have been a mistake made by some family record keeper in a previous generation, no longer able to amend it themselves, and repeated by yourself with no knowledge that it was incorrect. With no source shown, there's no way to tell and it doesn't matter.

All this to apologize in advance for taking it upon myself to make the change with an approximate d.o.b. for Nancy Prather. I have two sources that convince me the 1812 date is that of the daughter, not the mother: 1) Entries for herself and other family members in the book Descendants of Patrick Fagin, and 2) A FindAGrave link to Nancy (Prather) Fagin's memorial, complete with links and dates for her father, husband and children. I wish there were a link to a memorial for Nancy (Slye) Prather - I've searched for one in vain - but even lacking that it's clear that 1812 was the d.o.b. for Nancy Fagin, not Nancy Prather. I'll make the change now; mea culpa.

George - no worries at all. I am an absolute novice and light hobbyist at this work. I appreciate all help and support.

That's very good to hear. The last thing I wanted to do was offend you by intruding into your family records unasked. I wanted you to understand that I made certain before doing so that the change makes good sense; I felt I needed to modify the profile, but didn't want to appear meddlesome.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reassure me - I truly appreciate it.

Best Regards,

George (your distant kinda-sorta-cousin, or something like that)

20 Oct 1812 ws the birth date for Nancy's daughter (also named Nancy), not for Nancy herself. Note that the other daughter, Amelia, shows 1807 for her birth date. Nancy's husband Samuel was born in 1785; she probably was born not many years after.
