Biography

Frances also known as Fanny was born in Old Ninety Six District, South Carolina about 1771. Her parents were Reuben Flanagan and Abarilla Hyatt Prather. Her father is listed on the 1779 census for Ninety Six District.

Frances was a child when the Revolutionary War began.

The area where her family lived became Newberry District when it was created in 1785 from Old Ninety Six. Her father died about 1798.

Frances was married to Henry Owens/Owings prior to 13 October of 1800.

Deed book E, page 13 and 14 of Newberry, SC, October 13, 1800, names Fanny as wife of Henry Owings selling their share of Reuben Flanagan's (deceased) land to Bryce Prather.

Bryce Prather was her half brother.

Frances was named in the will of her mother in Newberry District, South Carolina in 1814. She was listed as Fanny.

In the will of Abarilla Prather Flanagan, Newberry, SC, Box 6, #14, pkg. 147 states "Fanny Owen, my dau., wife of Henry Owings.[1]

In box 2, pkg 3, Estate 44 in the Newberry Courthouse, papers on the sale of a tract of land in the Estate of Mrs. Frances Owens, deceased dated 23 October 1827.

The paper stated that the land was originally granted to Henry Owens, deceased. Henry was listed in the 1800 and 1810 SC Federal Census but wasn't found in 1820 Census. There is no record of his death nor his wife's but we assume they were both dead before Oct 1827.
