Uncertain Origins

No birth records have been found for "Elnell Pratly". No Pratly's (with several spelling variations) have been found in New Hampshire in the proper timeframe. One source suggests that Elnell Pratly was the mis-transcription of the name Eleanor Dudley.[1]

"Elnell Pratly", may have been a daughter of Samuel Dudley and 3rd wife, Elizabeth (Unknown) Dudley.[1] Howard speculates that due to a transcription error, the name Elnell Pratly should have been shown as Eleanor Dudley. He discusses in some detail how the curve of the handwritten letters convinced him that Elnell Pratly should be Eleanor Dudley.

Research has been conducted into Samuel Dudley's family; no sources of a daughter Eleanor or Elnell were found. His will did not mention Eleanor, her husband or their children. If she truly was his daughter, some mention would certainly have been made of Eleanor, Robert Smart and/or their children, who were alive at Samuel Dudley's passing.

Biography

Eleanor (aka Elnell) married to Robert Smart at Salisbury, Massachusetts/ Exeter, New Hampshire on Sept 25th, 1674. This was the same date and place that Elizabeth Dudley married Kensley Hall. (Eleanor is shown as Elnell Pratly, marriage date 25 7 74).[2][3][4]

Eleanor and Robert Smart had children, but their dates of birth (with one exception) and Eleanor's death date hasn't been found. Robert may have married a Mary after Eleanor died; Mary was shown as his widow in some sources. Uncited sources suggest Eleanor may have died in 1690 at Exeter, New Hampshire.

Pratly-3 and Dudley-1226 are not ready to be merged because: Because there is no substantiation other than 1 source speculating on Eleanor's last name at birth being Dudley, the two profiles will be merged to Pratley. Information about her LNAB possibly being Dudley, along with her (potential) father's name will be included in the merged profile.

What sources show her death date in 1665?

Pratly-3 and Dudley or Pratley-1 appear to represent the same person because: These two represent the same woman.
