Biography

Birth
Joseph was born in 1663 to parents Thomas Pratt and Susannah Gleason. He was a housewright by trade and was appointed Sherborn Town Constable in 1716 (ref__).

Marriage and Children
On 19 March 1695 Joseph married Hannah Provender at Sherborn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.[1] Joseph and Hanna had the following known children:

  1. Hannah, b. 31 Jan 1696[2]; m. Thomas Bixby[3]
  2. Prudence, b. 22 Apr 1698[4]
  3. Rachel, b. 6 Nov 1703[5]; m. Joseph Graves, 8 May 1723[6]
  4. Mary, b. 4 mar 1705/6[7]; m. Jeremiah Belknap, 10 Aug 1732[8]
  5. Barshabeth, b. 24 Apr 1708[9]; m. David Sanger 27 May 1736[10]

Residency
In 1689 Joseph sold land to his brother Thomas Pratt (b. 1656) six acres of upland in Framingham bounded south on Nat., the same that he (had) bought of John How. [11]

In 1710 the township of Sherborn issued an Ammunition Tax Assessment of L10 proportionate to each landowner listed. The list included the following sons Joseph and brothers) of Thomas Pratt: Thomas, III; Joseph; John; Johnathan; David; Jabez. Grandson, Daniel Pratt was also included in the property owners. [11]

Death
His wife Hannah died 20 May 1745. Joseph Pratt died 31 October 1747 and was buried at Framingham. The inventory of his estate is dated 16 Nov 1747. [12] [13][14][15]

I am questioning the children of Joseph Pratt and Hannah Provinder as shown in the profile and as listed in the Biography. The names of the children are recorded in "A History of Framingham" by William Barry and in the Framingham, Massachusetts birth records: 1, Hannah January 31, 1696, 2. Prudence April 22, 1698, 3. Rachel November 6, 1703, 4. Mary March 4, 1705-6, 5. Barshabeth April 24, 1708. Elizabeth is not mentioned in either source.

The list of children in the biography needs to be edited. There are multiple repetitions of the same name.

I agree. Joseph's probate record names three daughters, Hannah wife of Thomas Bixby, Rachel wife of Joseph Graves, and Barsheba wife of David Sanger. It appears to me that the list above confuses Rachel with an Elizabeth as they all appear to have the same husband.

Me again. I see what happened. Ancestry has the original book images and the page with Barshabeth has been transcribed in the index as Elizabeth. In fairness to the indexer, the page is heavily soiled, but you can definitely make out the first letter as a 'B', not an 'E'.

Pratt-5645 and Pratt-1691 appear to represent the same person because: These are definitely duplicates. The year of birth is one year off but, they have the same data otherwise. The person didn't come up when the duplicate was created.
