Biography

Asa Pratt was born 27 Apr 1744 at Oxford, Massachusetts as the son of Micah and Mary Gale Pratt.[1][2]

Marriage

Asa Pratt married Susannah Bemis "of Charlton" at Oxford, Massachusetts on 6 Sep 1769.[3][4]

Just like Asa's older brothers, David and Abraham, Asa relocates to Washington County, New York sometime in the late 1700s.

According to "The Pratt Directory" compiled by Jayne Pratt Lovelace, the list of Asa's children came from a family Bible which descends in the possession of Asa's daughter, Eunice.[5]

The 1790 Federal Census lists Asa as living in Cambridge, Albany County.[6] He has ten individuals living in his household, which matches up with the eight children he is said to have fathered before 1790.

By 1800, Asa can be found living in the town of Argyle, Washington County, New York.[7] His household has two children under 10 living in his household which also matches his daughter Lydia born in 1791 and Olive born in 1793. It is also interesting to note that Asa's wife, Susannah is said to have died in 1794, but there is a female 45 and over living in Asa's household. Is this Susannah or did Asa remarry?

The 1810 Federal Census for Argyle again finds Asa's family.[8] Two of his sons are living next to him, William and Joel. Asa has male under the age of 10 living in his household and again also has a female 45 and older.

The last record I can find for Asa Pratt is a deed in which he sells his property in Argyle. The deed is dated 29 Mar 1814 and he signs the deed but there is no release of dower rights which implies his wife is now deceased.[9] The clerk also states that Asa Pratt was present on the 29th of March to vouch for the deed.
