The History of Fitzwilliam[4] has the following information:
Reuben Pratt, from Westboro, Massachusetts came to Fitzwilliam in 1768. He was one of the earliest settlers in the east part of the town, and the earliest one who remained in town. He died Jan 21, 1807, age 62, and was the first person carried on a hearse in Fitzwilliam. He married Ruth Williams who died Sept 26, 1806, age 61 years 6 months.

It is related of Mr. Pratt that one Sabbath morning he looked southweast of his house over his meadow and saw what he supposed were three horses feeding. The boys having been sent to drive them out of the grass, discovered that instead of horses they were moose.
