Biography

Raymond B. Pratt was born about 1866 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of James P. and Sarah E. Pratt. [1] [2]

By 1900, Raymond was a practicing physician in Elmira, Chemung County, New York. [3] He married Julia Norton Short on February 2, 1902. [4] By 1905, they were running the Pratt Institute, a private hospital in Elmira, New York. [5] The following year, numerous articles appeared in the local newspapers reporting that Mrs. Pratt was seeking a divorce, and her husband was seeking an annulment. He claimed she married him while still married to another man.

Raymond was granted an annulment and soon after married one of his nurses, Florence Cornell. Their son, Raymond B. Pratt Jr., was born in August 1907.

Dr. Raymond Pratt died of tuberculosis on March 25, 1909. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, Chemung County, New York. [6]
