Biography

This Joseph is the son of William Pratt and can be found living in Jay County, Indiana in the 1850 Federal Census.[1] He is living next door to his sister Rhoda Campbell and his other sister, Mehitabel is living a couple of pages away.

Joseph's date of birth is calculated from his obituary.

By the 1860 Federal Census, William Pratt has relocated his family to Stearns County, Minnesota.[2] William has a new wife and three new children. He also appears to have a brother, James Pratt, aged 37???, living in his household too.

1865 Minnesota State Census for Stearns County.[3]

1870 finds the family still living in Stearns County, Minnesota.[4] Joseph's son, Jerome is living in his own household.

By the time the 1880 Federal Census occurs, Joseph and Eliza now in their 60s are living in Hamilton County, Nebraska.[5]

The 1885 Nebraska State Census for Hamilton County has Joseph, now a widower living next door to his son, Jerome Pratt.[6]

News of Joseph's death is published on 21 Apr 1894 in the "Aurora News-Register".[7]

Research Notes

William's son Gilbert also had a son named Joseph, born circa 1826 and can be found in the household next to his father Gilbert Pratt in the 1850 Federal Census for Greene County, Ohio.[8]

I think this Joseph is actually the son of Gilbert's father William Pratt. Gilbert did have a son named Joseph born 1826. See "The Pratt Directory" edited by Jayne Pratt Lovelace for further information.
