George was born in 1605 in the parish of St Gregory by St Paul (St Paul's Cathedral), London, England, the eldest child of Henry Pratt, a Merchant Taylor and Mary Adams his wife .
He was baptised on 16 June 1605 at St Gregory by St Paul. His father would not be made a baronet until 1641, so at this time in his life he was not given any honorific in the register.
