Heinrich August Friedrich Preiss was born in 1846 in Clausthal, Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany.
He migrated to South Australia with his parents and four older siblings on the Herder, arriving at Port Adelaide in August 1851. He lived in Adelaide for a year,[1] then Burra for a year, [1] and married Ellen Baker at Gawler River (at the residence of William Nottle) on 3 December 1873 (as Henry August Frederick Preiss).[2]
The couple farmed at Buchsfelde and Gawler River. They had nine children:
Henry sought naturalisation which was granted on 22 July 1914, at age 67.[1]
He died on 1 MAY 1932 at Gawler, South Australia and is buried at Buchfelde.
