Biography

Matilda was the daughter of Gerald de Prendergast.[1]

Matilda was espoused to David son of Maurice who died before she was seven years old,[1] or to whom she was espoused when she was seven.[2]

Matilda was married before 28 October, 1259, to Maurice son of Maurice.[1]

On 5 Kalends November, 5 Alexander IV [28 October 1259], at Anagni, a Papal mandate was issued to the bishop of Cloyne not to molest Maurice son of Maurice, of his diocese (who has appealed to the pope), on the ground that he married Matilda, daughter of Gerald de Prendergast, she having been espoused to his late brother David, who died before she was seven years old.[1]

On 4 Nones January, 6 Alexander IV [2 January, 1260], at Anagni, a Papal dispensation was granted to Maurice, son of Maurice Gerold, of the diocese of Cloyne, to remain in the marriage contracted with Matilda, to whom, when seven years old, his brother David, since deceased, had been espoused.[2]
