C. J. F. Binney who apparently corresponded with Harriet, stated that,"She resides at Brush's Mills, Franklin County, N.Y. She was a year old when her father Perez went to Hinesburg, Vt, and was quite young when she went to New York State."
Binney also said that she married Levi Conger when she was ae 16 and lived fifteen years with him.
Harriet married Sylvester Potter in 1838 and lived with him in Bangor, Franklin County, New York when the 1850 census was taken. The household consisted of Sylvester Potter, 64, farmer, $2000, born in VT; Harriet Potter, 45, born in VT; Charles Potter, 18, born in NY; George Potter, 15, born in NY; and Caroline Hewitt, 15, born in Vermont. All the children attended school during the year. Charles and George Potter apparently were Sylvester's children of his first marriage. Caroline Hewitt's relationship to the family is unknown.
Between 1850 and 1860, Sylvester and Harriet moved to Brushton where they are found on the 1860 census. When Sylvester died in 1866, he and Harriet had been married to each other longer than either of them were married to their first spouses.
At the time of the 1870 census and 1880 census, the widowed Harriet Potter continued to live in Brush's Mill or Brushton. Her son, Wallace Conger and his family also lived there.
