1776 Project
Captain Eleazer Prentice served with 8th Connecticut Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Eleazer Prentice Born: 28 Sep 1735, Preston, Connecticut, son of Joseph Prentice & wife Mary Wheeler [1]

Baptized: 5 Oct 1735, Congregational Church of Preston/Griswold.[2]

Married: Sarah Stanton 19 Oct 1758 Preston Ct.[1] The marriage was recorded in the church records also.[2]

He served in the American Revolution.[3] Capt. Eleazer Prentiss' service is acknowledged by the DAR. [4]

His service was noted on the patriot record of Nathaniel Denison Denison-1738 who lost his life "at sea."

Eleazer Prentice is listed in the census of 1800 living in Preston, Connecticut. Number of household members is 4. [5]

Died: Eliezer, Capt. , d Nov 15, 1805, AE 71 [2]

Will

He died in 1802 in New London, Connecticut. His will date is 23 Jun 1802. Probate date was 23 Jun 1802.[6]

  • Bequeath to wife Sarah Prentice, the use and improvementsof the one third of all the lands I am possessed of/ Half the dwelling house. One third of the farm. Furniture. One cow, and one horse saddle and bridle. One third of the money left at my death
  • Bequeath to daughter Desire Prentice. One cow. Feather bed and furntiure. After the death of my wife Desire get use of that part of the house which was her mother's and long as she remains single. Six bushels of corn. Three bushels of rye. Desire gets 70 pounds in money in one year after the decease of her mother. If Desire is to marry, the corn and grain is not to be paid yearly and not to have a privilige in the house.
  • Furniture is not to be sold but divided by my three daughters, Sarah Cook, Olive Britton and Desire Prentice.
  • My three sons John Prentice, Nathan Prentice, and Rufus Prentice all the lands I am possessed of and own in fee to be equally divided betweeen named sons above. All the stock not given away. Wearing apparel to my three sons.
  • I give to my son John Prentice my clock after the decease of my wife.
  • Everything not named to be divided equally.

Eleazer Prentice was buried in Griswold, New London, Connecticut in Leonard Cemetery.[7]

Binney made note that at one time the preceding children average d two hundred twenty pounds in weight.
