John Prescot was born in about 1804 in St Helens, Lancashire.

John married Ellen Chadwick on 30 Jan 1825 at Rainford Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. Neither had been married before, and both were of the local parish. John was a nailor. The witnesses were Ellen Chadwick, Sarah Stubbs, and William Prescot.

Their daughter Sarah was christened on 26 Jun 1825 at St Helens Chapel in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. Her father's occupation was recorded as nailor, and the family's address as Sutton.

Their daughter Elizabeth was born on 23 Oct 1828, and christened on 16 Nov 1828 at Tontine Street Wesleyan Chapel in St Helens, Lancashire.

Their son James was born on 8 Sep 1832, and christened on 7 Oct 1832 at Tontine Street Wesleyan Chapel in St Helens, Lancashire. The family's address was recorded as Eccleston, and his mother's parents as James and Sarah Chadwick.
