Biography

Unsourced child John born 1842. Mary Ann Prest was born in 1822. She was the daughter of Richard Prest and Mercy Dunn, a daughter of Micajah Dunn and Sarah Torrence. Mary's grandfather Micajah and great-grandfather Captain Hugh Dunn were among the first settlers to enter the Symmes Purchase lands at the Ohio River settlement named Columbia. This place would later become Cincinnati, Ohio. Micajah was an early pioneer of both Hamilton County, Ohio and Dearborn County, Indiana, having moved down river to Elizabethtown where Mary's mother Mercy was born. He would eventually become a pioneer in what became Manchester in Dearborn County, Indiana. This is the probable location of Mary Ann's birth.

Richard "Press" was recorded during the 1820 census residing in Manchester. The date of his death is not known. Her mother would remarry to Blackley Shoemake in 1836 indicating Mr. Prest was no longer living by this time. It was with her step-father Mary traveled to Iowa about 1847.

Mary Ann first was married in 1849 to David Lyon. She again married to David Eller in 1848. Mary Ann Eller was named in the final accounting of the estate of Micajah Dunn in 1855. She was again widowed in 1870 and she passed away in 1895.
