Lyman Preston was a part of the Abolitionist Movement.

Born: Lyman Preston was born April 11,1800, in Harwinton, Litchfield, Connecticut. [1]He was son of Noah Preston and Honor Rossiter.[2]

Married: Lyman married Hannah Gillett in February of 1825 in Williamstown, Oneida County, New York.[2]

Ultra-Abolitionist: Lyman and his wife Hannah (Gillett) Preston were ultra-abolitionists who ran underground railroad stations in New York and Illinois for escaped slaves seeking freedom.[3] The Preston home was frequently visited by prominent abolitionists such as William Lloyd Garrison, Gerrit Smith and Alvan Stewart.

By instrument dated June 7, 1825 Truman Gillet, of Williamston, Oswego, New York, conveyed 8 ac described as part of Lot 177 in Williamston and 15 ac. described as part of Lot 190 in Township 5, Oswego, New York, to Lyman Preston, of Camden, Oneida, New York.[4]
By instrument dated January 29, 1828, Lyman Preston of Camden, Oneida, New York, assigned all of his right, title and interes in Lot 179 of Township 5, Williamston, Oswego, New York to Truman Gilett.[5]
By instrument dated November 27, 1834, Lyman Preston, and Hannah his wife, of Camden, Oneida, New York, conveyed 8 ac described as part of Lot 177 in Williamston and 15 ac. described as part of Lot 190 in Township 5, Oswego, New York, to Truman Gillet, of Town of Williamston, Oswego, New York.[6]
By instrument dated November 27, 1834, Lyman Preston, and Hannah his wife, of Camden, Oneida, New York, conveyed 8 ac described as part of Lot 177 in Williamston and 15 ac. described as part of Lot 190 in Township 5, Oswego, New York, to Truman Gillet, of Town of Williamston, Oswego, New York.[7]

Death and Burial: Lyman passed away on March 21, 1852. Lyman is buried with his wife at the Mouth of Stillman Valley Cemetery Stillman Valley, Ogle County, Illinois, USA. [8][9]

Preston and Hannah's five children are identified in the The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, Vol LII".[10]
