"Elizabeth Preuss was born January 22, 1818 in Monreal, Kreis Mayen, Rhineland, Prussia, the daughter of George Bernhard Preuss and Margaret Elizabeth Kirscher. She married Anton Meiler on February 12, 1839, at St. Kastor Catholic Church, in Weiler, Kreis Mayen, Rhineland, Prussia. They were the parents of six known children - Margaretha (1840-1878), Maria (1841-1910), George Bernhard (1842-1915), Damian (1844-1844) Johann A. (1845-1914) and Joseph (1847- 1924).
On December 24, 1855, the family, with eight children (including the four surviving from Anton's first marriage to Margaretha Frenzen), having sailed on the Bark New York, arrived at the Port of New York to be processed into the recently opened Castle Garden, America's first official immigration center. The family settled in Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois where Anton was a school teacher and active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Sometime after her husband Anton died in 1872, she lived with the family of her daughter, Margaretha and husband, Michael Conrad. Elizabeth lived with the Conrad family until her death on February 5, 1904."
