John Price of "Porteham in the conty of Hereford.",[1] of the same family as the Welsh poet Hywel ap Dafydd ap Ieuan ap Rhys Llwyd,[2] was descended from Dafydd Gam, a renowned hero of Agincourt.[3]

Eldest son of Rhys ap Gwilym ap Llywelyn ap Rhys Llwyd ab Adam, of Brecknock,[2] by Gwenllian, daughter of Hywel Madoc, John was born in 1501/2[3][4] at Porteham, Le Priory, Hereford, England.[citation needed]
He was a servant of Cromwell by 1530. On 11 October 1534, he married Cromwell's niece, Joan, the daughter of "John Williams alias Cromwell of Southwark, Surr.",[3] also called John Williamson.[2] Joan's mother was Joan (Prior) Williams,[3] widow of Philip Egerton[1] and sister of Thomas Cromwell's wife Elizabeth.[2] She was the daughter of John Prior, son of John Prior, Knt., and Ellen Mannering.[1]
John Price and Joan married at her uncle Thomas's home in Islington, John "being at that time 32 and his bride 18. Their firstborn son was to be named Gregory after Cromwell’s eldest boy."[3]

The information in his biography posted by the History of Parliament Online could be interpreted as 11 children plus the illegitimate daughter: "6s. inc. Gregory and Richard† 5 da.; 1 da. illegit." (accessed 2 March 2022).
  6. 6.0 6.1 6.2 6.3 John's biography posted by the History of Parliament Online names only Gregory and Richard, who were also MPs. History of Parliament on line has b. 1501/2, 1st s. of Rhys ap Gwilym ap Llywelyn of Brecon by Gwenllian, da. of Hywel Madoc, is this correct? Does the parentage need adjusting, do you think
