Agnes Ellen Price, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Wilson) Price a wealthy Lansing entrepreneur, as well as the wife of Andrew P. Kehoe.
Andrew and Ellen met while Andrew was attending Michigan State College of Agricultural (Michigan State University) and would marry shortly thereafter in 1912.
Diagnosed with and suffering from tuberculosis in October of 1926, she had been making several trips and long stays to St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Andrew was intended to bring home his wife earlier the week of the massacre, but it was determined that she would be better served staying a couple more days.
By account of neighbors of the Kehoe's, they did see her on the night of May 16 as the Kehoes returned home. However, she had a hat over her head and she appeared to be asleep in the vehicle. She is believed to be have been murdered by her husband sometime between May 16 and May 18, 1927, after Andrew picked-up Nellie at the hospital.
At some point after her death, she was placed in a hog chute on the side of the sheep barn, doused with either kerosene or gasoline, and allowed to burn with the buildings. Due to the limitations of forensics at the time, No determination of her actual cause or time of death was made.
Contemporary accounts from the time, implied that she had been hit over the head with a blunt force object. This was based upon the fracturing of her skill at the time of discovery. However, this theory was countered during the inquest by the Michigan state fire marshal, whose conclusions were that the skull fracture occurred as an expansion of gas. As was stated during his testimony during the inquest, it's normal for the skull to fracture in an outwardly manner from the expansion of gas when a body burns, as it did in Nellie Kehoe's circumstance.
She was found with what appeared to be a dislocated or broken arm, however. Undoubtedly, she likely met with foul play or possibly, though unlikely, succumbed to her illness as they returned home.
The next morning, Nellie's sisters called the Kehoe home to find out how she was doing. Andrew relayed that she had been up and about the house, and he had taken her to Jackson to visit friends. This however, had proven to be a lie.
