No birth record for Mordecai Price has been found. He was likely born around the West River area of Anne Arundel County, Maryland around 1660. Mordecai was mentioned on a memorial with a death date of 8 May 1715.[2] No proof of his parentage has been found, but some researchers have placed him as the son of Thomas Price and Elizabeth Johnson.
It is difficult to know where Mordecai Price lived since early land records of both Anne Arundel and Calvert counties were destroyed by fire. He was definitely living in the West River area of Anne Arundel County in 1705 as there is a record of the marriage of Elizabeth Price, daughter of Mordecai & Mary Price of Anne Arundel County at West River, to Thomas Carr in the minutes of the West River Meeting of Quakers. [3]
According to the 1707 debt book of the Lord Proprietor, Mordecai held a 116 acre tract called Locust Neck in his own right and 18 acres of the same tract for the orphans of Anthony Holland. He also owned 50 acres called Papa Ridge and 50 acres. called Greenwood. [4]
Mordecai was married to Mary, the daughter of Thomas and Isabella Parsons. Mordeai was in a family history or pedigree.[5] No record of the births of their children has been found in Quaker records, but the marriages of three of their children: Elizabeth, Mary & Mordecai Jr. are all entered in West River minutes.[3] We know the names of the Price children (and birth years) through the will of Mary Price dated 8 May 1718 as follows: [6]
There is no record of the death of Mordecai Price. An inventory of his estate was taken in 1715 in Anne Arundel County.[7] An accounting of the estate is available at the Maryland Archives in Annapolis in Liber 1, folio 333, 337 dated 1718.
