Research Notes

  • According to Allyn St. Clair Price,[1] two brothers married two sisters--Thomas Nelson Price and Sarah Jamison and Edmund Sterling Price and Elizabeth Jamison. Allyn St. Clair Price believed the sisters family was from Scotland. It is thought Edmund married Elizabeth in 1823, then Catherine Boyer about 1840 after Elizabeth died. The obituary for the oldest son Edmund states his mother as Elizabeth Pride [2]
  • According to the Southern Christian Advocate, Edmund Sterling Price, Esq, hosted the wedding of his nephew Thomas Nelson Price Jr at his home April 15, 1869. He must have died soon after.
  • There are 4 Price families on the same page in the 1840 Census for Richland. One is an Edmund. An age analysis of his family:

1840 US Census: Name Edmund J Price; Place Richland, South Carolina, United States N.B. Names are supposed from trying to match the family with ages and were not actually collected in this census except for the head of household.

Male Under 5 3 Thomas Price (1837-), Charles W. Price (1839-), George W. Price (1839-)
Male 5-10 3 John G Price (1832-), James N. Price (1833-) and Daniel Price (1836-)
Male 10-15 2 Edmund Alexander Price (abt.1825-abt.1913) and William H Price (1830-)
Male 40-50 1 Edmund Sterling Price (1800-abt.1868)
Female 30-40 1 Elizabeth (Jamison) Price (abt.1803-abt.1840) or Catherine (Boyer) Price (abt.1810-)
Female 50-60 1 too young to be Delilah, she is likely a mother-in-law-law and fits the age for Christine Boyer who is living with them in later census.

daughter Elizabeth Price (1828-) is the only missing family member, so this fits very well.
