Sean Du-Val Price was born on March 17, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York. Not much is known of his childhood at the moment.
Mr. Price rose to prominence in the 90's, under the moniker Ruck, as member of the Hip Hop collective, Boot Camp Clik and second half of Heltah Skeltah. Heltah Skeltah first appeared on Smif-N-Wessun's 1995 album, Dah Shinin. A year later, Heltah Skeltah released their own debut, Nocturnal, on Boot Camp Clik's record label, Duck Down Records. While they never experienced the same popularity and success as other Hip Hop artists like Wu-Tang Clan or Mobb Deep, they were critically acclaimed and The Source magazine nominated them 'Best New Group of 1996.'
Heltah Skeltah's second album, Magnum Force, was released in 1998. The album did poorly. Duck Down Records was also doing poorly at the time. This caused Heltah Skeltah to break up. Price experienced a few years of hard times after this point. He ended up back on the streets of Brooklyn hustling and selling drugs in order to survive. Using his birth name, he began appearing on various albums and mixtapes.
Sean Price's debut solo album, Monkey Barz, was released in 2005 on a reinvigorated Duck Down Records. The album garnered many favorable reviews and winning Independent Album of 2005 for both The Source magazine and AllHipHop.com. He received some major-label interest after his second album' Jesus Price Supastar , was released in 2007. His third release, Mic Tyson, also received favorable reviews and helped relaunch his career. Sean Price died August 8, 2015, in his sleep, in his Brooklyn home a month before his latest album, Songs in the Key of Price was set to be released. He's survived by his wife, Bernadette, and children, Elijah, Terri, Shaun P and Cash.
