12 February 1848 Will of Edmund Price:

In the Name of God Amen. I Edmund Price of the County of Kanawha and Commonwealth of Virginia being old and infirm but of sound mind and disposing memory calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly estate it has pleased God to bless me with do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say First I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses by paid by my executor herein after named out of my personal estate.

Secondly After the payment of my debts and funeral expenses I give and bequeath all my personal estate of any kind and description whatsoever to my four sons Archibald, Edmund, Burdett and James Price to be equally divided among them and to be held by them as their own exclusive property forever and it is to be understood that this bequest of all my personal estate to my four sons above mentioned is not made by me of any favor or partiality which I feel for them because what I (not legible) to my other children but because my said sons have delegated themselves to maintain and support me and my wife Betsy during our natural lives and because also I have heretofore given to all my children not heretofore mentioned portions of my Estate or made provisions for them to the full extent of my ability without doing injustice to my four sons.

And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Edmund Price sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former or other wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 12th day of February 1848.

At a court held for Kanawha Count the 16th day of March 1853. The last will and testament of Edmund Price deceased was proven by the oaths of Matthew Dunbar and John Hill witnesses thereto and Ordered to be recorded. [1]
