Mary (Prickett) Lucas was born in Frederick County, Virginia.
Mary "Polly" Lucas was born on 21 March in 1751 or 1754 in Frederick County, Virginia, (present-day Berkeley County, West Virginia, the fifth of eleven children and the second of five daughters of Jacob and Dorothy Springer Prickett.
Alternate birth information: 1 Mar 1751, Burlington, Burlington County, New Jersey,[1]
About 1772, when she was about eighteen she married Robinson Lucas, a native of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and the son of William Lucas, a Scottish "seafaring man" who had migrated to the colonies, probably in the 1740s.
Over the next twenty-five years or so, Polly bore Robinson nineteen children, seven boys and eight girls plus four of unknown gender who died in infancy. Fifteen children lived to grow up: Temperance, Elizabeth, William, John, Jacob, Drucilla, Mary, Cynthia, Anna, Isaiah, Isaac, Sarah, Robert, Rhoda and James--the last two born after their parents came to Ohio.
About 1795, Robinson moved the family to Mason County, Kentucky, then in the early 1800s across the Ohio River into present-day Brown County, Ohio. Robinson died in his seventies and is buried in the Lucas Homestead Cemetery in Sardinia, Brown County. Polly lived until she was eighty-five and died on 15 August 1839. She is buried beside her husband.
There are only two known graves
in the Lucas Homestead Cemetery
Cemetery notes and/or description: According to the Pindell family, Robinson Lucas is buried in an unmarked but fenced area on the original farmstead in Franklin Township, Brown County, Ohio, just below the dam at Lake Waynoka. Access is through the Lake Waynoka Development (off the Ashridge - Arnheim Road), a gated community. The site is accessed by crossing the dam on Waynoka Drive and turning left to a storage lot where off-season vehicles are parked. The grave site is in the grove of trees between the storage lot and the dam. It is not known who provided the fence and foundation protecting the grave site.[2]
