John was born about 1848. He was the son of Hųgᵋxų́nųga Little Priest and Jająksigᵋwįga Mink Woman. He passed away in 1923.
John's Hocąk name was given as Connohuttenickaw. (Waggoner) This is a modified birth order name: Cono is a phonetic rendering of Kųnų, "First Son." The second part of the name, huttenickaw, is for xete (in earlier sources, sometimes xate), meaning "big, large, old"; nįk, "little, a bit"; and -ka, a definite article suffix used in personal names. The seemingly paradoxical xetenįk means, "larger." So the name as a whole means, "the Larger Kųnų," or "the First Son Who is a Bit Larger [than usual]."
He died on 9 September 1923, probably in Nebraska.
