Biography

John Priest was born circa 1740 - 1745 most likely in Prince William Co. VA. He was the son of Peter and Sarah (Lawrence) Priest.

John Priest married Elizabeth (Brown) Priest sometime prior to the birth of their first son Mason. John and Elizabeth are thought to be the parents of Mason Priest (1762-1855), John Priest (1767-1817), Rodham Henry Priest (1767-1836), George Priest (1769-1831), Nelson Priest (1770 - ), Thomas Priest (1773- ) and William Priest (1775- ).

It is believed by some that John Priest died about November 1, 1809 in Fauquier County, VA.

Research Notes

Three people by the name of John Priest seem to be confused:

The first is shown to have: Owned Property in 1777, 200 acres within 2 miles of Washington Courthouse, Culpeper Co. VA. Then they show that in April 1790, John enlisted in the Virginia Continental Army at Washington, Culpeper Co VA, where he was living. He served in the Revolutionary War as a private under Captain Henry Manoe." John Priest apparently died intestate, as his estate was appraised by his sons. List of children taken from Priest Gen. 1908..

The second a John T, Priest whose Probate Date: 1 Nov 1809, Probate Place: Williamson, Tennessee. The problem with this view is that the children do not match those listed in the profile above. He died with his wife Mary still alive. Many combine Elizabeth and this Mary together.

The third was a John Priest who received a land grant in 1840 in Licking County, Ohio. The date of the Land Grants is outside the possibility of this being the same John Priest.
