Hi!

Congratulations, you've been a WikiTree member for a month! We're glad you're here. A few tips to help you dive in even deeper:

Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide on some of our more advanced features such as Projects, Categories, and Merging.

We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.

As always, I'm here to help if you have any questions!

Hi ,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hi!

How are you? I'm Guy, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.

How To Use WikiTree is a good starting point, and the Help Index is an important place to find out how to do most tasks.

If you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info. Do you have Royal Ancestors? Rather than create duplicate profiles for them, please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their profiles.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Guy ~ WikiTree Mentor

Amy,

Thanks for volunteering! You are now a member of the WikiTree community. We are building one collaborative tree with just one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add profiles to WikiTree. If you have pre-1700's ancestors to add, please read our Pre-1700 profiles info.

If you need any help, check out the Help section from the menu at top right, or visit the G2G forum and take a moment to introduce yourself in the Tree House. You might also want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.

We have mentors to help, too.

Welcome!

Karen

Yes, I would like to volunteer to help connect our family, human family as far back as possible. I am researching five main Surnames - Priester, Pifer, Hollingshead, Dean, and McArdle, and am willing to help and share my information.
Hi Amy, I noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. Here's a link to great info about adding a GEDCOM to WikiTree that you might find helpful. Also, 'Before you import a GEDCOM' Because WikiTree has only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out.

Sources are very important for genealogy - be sure to include the sources used, on each profile you add.

It is a good idea to enter a few of your ancestors manually, to get used to how WikiTree works. Then, you could upload a small portion of your tree, with a gedcom, to see how that works. There is usually editing needed after a Gedcom import, so fewer profiles makes the task easier.

Hello & Welcome, to WikiTree! We're growing a FREE worldwide family tree, striving for ONE collaborative profile per person.

"Sources are critically important for genealogy. Some even say that genealogy without sources is mythology. Even if you're just a casual family historian recording modern family history, you will be helping future genealogists by listing where the information you've added came from."

Feel free to ask questions at our G2G forum. Also, our help pages menu, top right, has some very useful information.

Our Honor Code is why our community is such a friendly place to grow your family tree, so please take some time to read it. Want to join us? Check the volunteer box and leave a brief comment about your genealogical journey. - Happy researching -
