During the time that daughter Willie and John Abbott were dating, the family moved to Clovis, New Mexico to take advantage of the government land that was given to anyone who was willing to farm and settle on the land. They couldn't make a living and the family had to return to Woodville and farm there. John Abbott visted for a while and helped, but was called away to his railroad job. (See image)

He passed away 24 Nov 1941, at the age of 71, as a widower and farmer. [3][4]
