James was born in 1856. He was the son of William Prince and Eliza Trice. When James Henry Prince was born on January 13, 1856, in Estillfork, Alabama, USA, his father, Capt., was 34 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 26.

He married Martha (Mattie) Elizabeth Miller on 13 March 1881 at Denton, Texas.^[1]
