Matilda Pringle was born in 1804 (gravestone seems to say June 25 1804, but the photograph at findagrave is hard to read), Skenesborough? (now Whitehall), New York (or in Ontario, Canada). She was married about 1821 (presumably in Ontario) to John E. Hatherley. Matilda shows up in the 1860 Census of Wells Township, Tuscola County, Michigan, living with her sons Rufus and Henry, and she said she was born in Canada.
Matilda (widow of Kingston, Michigan) was married on 17 November 1865, Tuscola County, Michigan, to Benjamin Hobson (who was born in Ireland). They appear in Marlette, Sanilac County, Michigan, in the 1870 Census. Her age is given as 66, and she says she was born in New York. NOTE: Interesting that her daughter-in-law, Martha (Clark) Hatherley died at Marlette, Sanilac County.
Benjamin Hobson died in the 1870s (not in the 1880 Census), because she is called Matilda Hathlay in the 1880 Census (living with son Henry), and said she was born in Canada (but she said her parents were born in Ireland, which is incorrect). She then apparently went to live with her daughter Lucinda in Boston Township, Ionia County, because Matilda died (from "dropsy") on 16 May 1885, Boston, Ionia County, Michigan. She is buried in South Boston Cemetery, Clarksville, Michigan.
