Biography

Sarah Elizabeth (Pringle) Staats was born on April 8, 1853 in Flatwoods, Jackson, Virginia, United States.[1][2][3][4] She was the daughter of Gilbert Pringle and Martha Skidmore.

Sarah married John Madison Staats (1849 - 1925) on April 8, 1869 in Ripley, Jackson, West Virginia.[5][4][6]

Their children were...[4]

  1. Clermont Proffett Staats (1870 - 1963)
  2. Carter Simon Staats (1889 - 1955).

Sarah died in ~1904 in Jackson, West Virginia aged ~51. She is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Jackson County, West Virginia.[4][7]

Research Notes

Sarah's birth record identifies her mother as Elizabeth Skidmore, not Martha Ann Skidmore. The person who registered the birth was a midwife named Gracy Casto.[8] Martha Ann did have a younger sister named Elizabeth, born about September 1837.[9]Elizabeth would have been about 15 years old when Sarah Elizabeth Pringle was born. This birth record is a secondary, or possible tertiary, source. It is a Jackson County, West Virginia birth register created from older county records. If earlier copies of the records exist they need to be examined to see if her birth mother's name was recorded as "Elizabeth" or "Martha".

Pringle-1994 and Pringle-2097 appear to represent the same person because: More than enough details match.
