Sir Robert Pringle of Stichell, county Roxburgh, is the fist son of and heir of John Pringle by Margaret Scott, illegitimate daughter of Walter Scott, 1st Earl of Buccleuch.
Robert's father purchased the family estate in Stichell in 1628 and Robert succeeded his grandfather's titles in 1649. He also succeeded to the estate of Newhall, county Selkirk, on the death of his cousin, Robert Pringle, of Newhall, in 1672. Robert was made a Baronet on January 6, 1682/3.
In 1660, Robert married Margaret, daughter of Sir John Hope, 2nd Baronet of Craighall, by Margaret, daughter of Sir Archibald Murray, 1st Baronet of Blackbarony.
Robert and Margaret were the parents of nineteen children, of whom six sons and seven daughters attained full age.
