Dexter was born about 1761 in Skenesborough, Charlotte, New York Colony. He was the son of Joel Pringle, Jr. and Deborah (Bigelow) Pringle.
He married Margaret Peterson.
He died on 31 Jul 1839 in Norfolk, Upper Canada.
(Dexter) Doctor Pringle did not use his first name. (In the Pringle family "Doctor" was often given to the seventh son, implying that we do not know two of his siblings.) He lived (and was born?) circa 1760 at Skenesborough, Whitehall, New York. He served as a private in the King's Rangers. For this service Britain granted him land on the south shore of Hay Bay, Lennox County, Upper Canada, in 1784. He farmed there. In about 1788 he married Margaret, daughter of Abraham and Magdalena (van Orden) Peterson. Five children (Joel, Magdalena, Abraham, Deborah, and Daniel) were born 1788-1796. In 1798 they traded the Hay Bay land for land in Hallowell Township (Prince Edward County) across the narrow Bay of Quinte, where Margaret's parents lived. Doctor died in 1839 in Greater Napanee, Fredericksburgh Township, Lennox County.
(Speculation has it that his name was simply Doctor Pringle and that "Dexter" was substituted because "Doctor" was so unusual. This seems unlikely in view of the use of "Dexter" in the family, for instance Edmund Dexter Pringle-1862.)
(I have not seen a primary source for his death-place; the FindAGrave record is not based on a gravemarker and is unsourced. If it is correct it suggests that he moved back from Prince Edward to Lennox County.)
