Biography

Isaac Prior was born in England, in about 1815. His father, Timothy Prior, was an ironmonger.

Isaac Prior married, at about age 24, to Jane Fletcher, age 28.
They were married in Salem Chapel, Ipswich, Suffolk, on the 3rd of August 1839.

In 1841 Isaac and Jane were living in Christ Church Spitalfields, Middlesex, England. [1]

They immigrated to Australia on board the "Caleb Angas." which departed London on the 30th of October 1841 and arrived in Port Adelaide, South Australia, on the 16 of February 1842.


By the end of 1856, Isaac, about age 41, and Jane about 45, had completed their family with their 8th known child.

There were possibly two more children.

Isaac Prior was a Congregational Minister, School Master and Owner Of Vineyards.

In his later years, Isaac Prior resided in his home, known as Ivyburn, until his death in 1886, at age 71.
His wife Jane lived a further 19 years and died in 1905 at the age of 94.

Isaac and Jane Prior were both buried at McLaren Vale, South Australia in the McLaren Vale Uniting Church Cemetery.
