Biography

Ann Prior was born on 30 December 1829. She was the daughter of William and Kitty Prior of Charles Street, St George in the East, Middlesex, England. William was a carpenter. Ann was baptised on 30 October 1831 at the parish church of St George in the East, Middlesex. [1]

In 1841, 11 year old Ann was living at Fair Place, Stepney, Middlesex, with her mother Catherine Prior, age 50 and born in Scotland. Catherine was a Fruitier. There were no other members of the household listed. [2] [3]

On 19 October 1846, Ann married George Jarvis, a mariner, at the church of St Saviour in the parish of Southwark, just south of the River Thames in what then was Surrey, but is now London. She was living in Stepney on the north side of the River Thames at the time. [4]

In 1851, Ann, age 21, was living at 2 Gardon Place, Poplar, Middlesex with her children George (4), Ann (2) and Brigham (4 month). [5] [6] The family entry runs over two pages - George is at the foot of the first page.

Ann emigrated to the United States with her husband and children in 1857. They travelled by wagon train to the Utah Territory in 1860 with the Jesse Murphy Company.[7]
