HORROR OF FROG LAKE MASSACRE IN 1885

  • As recalled by, Z. M. Hamiliton
  • Solomon Pritchard of the Eagle Hills, who is now in Regina on business connected with the Saskatchewan Metis Organization, is among the one or two survivors of the Frog Lake massacre on that tragic day in April of 1885, when 11 white men were ruthlessly murdered by Big Bear's Indians, and two women ragged off as prisoner by their captors.
  • It was Pritchard's father, assisted by Solomon, then a youth of barely 20, who at the peril of his life, saved Mrs. Delaney and Mrs. Gowanlock, and eventually restored them to their friends.
  • This splendid action of the Pritchard's, father and son, have won them a high and honored place in the history of their native western land. Solomon Pritchard, although now in his 74th year, is still strong and vigorous, with the active alert body of the old time hunter, and with mind bright and undimmed with the massage of the years.
