Biography

James was born 7 Jun 1862 in Tennessee. He was the son of Isaac Pritchard and Samantha Burnett.[1]

In 1870, Jas, 8, was living in Clarksburg, Carroll, TN with his parents, Isaac, 49, and Samantha, 46. Also in the household were John F, Cordelia, 16, Frances, 10, and Dudley. He was born in TN.[2]

In 1880, James, 18, was living in Carroll, TN with his parents, Isaac, 59, and Samantha, 50 along with his brother Dudley H, 11.[3]

J.G. Pritchard and Josie Watson were married 6 Nov 1884 in Carroll, TN.[4]

In 1900, J.G, Jun 1862, was living in Carroll, TN with his wife, Jessie, 32. Also in the household were Willie, 14, Forest, 12, Print, 10, Eva, 8, Jessie, 6, Gary, 5, Curtice, 2, Ben, 1 mo. and his widowed father, Isaac, 79. J.G. and Jessie had been married 15 yrs. She had given birth to 9 children, 8 still alive. J.G. was a farmer on his own land.[5]

In 1910, James G, 47, was living in Carroll, TN with his wife, Jessie E, 43. Also in the household were Eva, 18, Jessey H, 16, Guy, 15, Curtis M, 13, Benjamin, 10, Francis, 8, Thetis, 6, Edward, 4, and Joe W, 2. James and Jessie had been married 25 yrs. She had given birth to 13 children, 12 still alive. He was a farmer. Jessey and Guy were laborers for wages on the farm.[6]

In 1920, J.G, 57, was living in Carroll, TN with his wife, Jessie, 52. Also in the household were Jesse, 27, Ben, 19, Francis, 17, Thetis, 15, Edward, 13, and Jas, 11. J.G. was a farmer and Ben and Jesse were laborers on the farm.[7]

In 1930, Jim G, 67, was living in Carroll, TN with his wife, Josie, 62. Also in the household were Edward, 23, Joe Watson, 21, grandchildren: James, 13, Bill Joe, 10, and Jessie Jean, 7. (None of JIm’s children are listed as married or divorced, so where did the grandchildren come from) Jim was 28 yrs at first marriage and Josie was 17. Jim was a general farmer. Edward, Joe, and James were laborer’s on the farm.[8]

In 1940, a widowed J.G, 77, was living in Carroll, TN with his son, Edward, 34, his wife, Sylvia, 21, and their daughter, Natelle, 6 mo. He lived in rural Carroll, TN in 1935. J.G. was "unable to work". Edward was farming the family farm.[9]

James G. Pritchard died 4 Jun 1942 in Clarksburg, Carroll, TN. He was married to Josie Pritchard. He was a farmer. The cause of death was coronary thrombosis. He was buried in Blair Cemetery, Clarksburg, TN.[1] His will was probated 8 June 1941 in Carroll, TN.[10] James was buried in Blair Cemetery, Clarksburg, Carroll, TN. The photo on findagrave is actually for his son, Jesse H. On Josie’s photo, James and Josie share a double tombstone. Her dates are June 19, 1867-Mar 8, 1934. His dates are June 7, 1862-June 4, 1942.[11]

Will

I, J.G. Pritchard, a citizen of the 13th Civil District of Carroll County, Tennessee, being of sound mind and disposing memory, aware of the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do make and publish this, my last will and testament; hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made.

I direct that all my property, both real and personal, be sold by my executrix and executor and converted into cash. And this done as soon after my death, as is practicable. And that all of my just debts be paid by my executrix and executor who are hereinafter named.

Should I become disable to the extent that I have to be taken care of, by any one, whither it be my own child or someone else, that who ever looks after me and takes care of me and waits upon me shall receive, out of my estate, reasonable pay for his or her services, from my said estate.

I direct that my daughter, Frances Pritchard Myracle be paid one hundred ($100.00) Dollars out of my estate from the first moneys left in the hands of my executor and executrix, after my debts are paid, for services heretofore rendered me. In the distribution of my estate by my executor and executrix, I direct that my son, Thetus Pritchard, be charged with three hundred ($300.00) dollars for money he owes me, at this time, unless said Three hundred ($300.00) dollars be paid to me before my death.

I then direct that my property shall be divided as follows:

I bequeath to my son, W. I, Pritchard, one tenth (1/10) interest; to my daughter, Wa Eva Pritchard Wall, one tenth (1/10) interest; to my son, Guy Pritchard, one tenth (1/10) interest; to my son, Curtis Pritchard, one tenth (1/10) interest; to my son, Ben Pritchard, one tenth (1/10) interest; to my daughter Frances Pritchard Myracle, one tenth (1/10) interest; to my son, Thetis Pritchard, one tenth (1/10) interest; to my son, Ed Pritchard, one tenth (1/10) interest; and the five (5) children of my deceased son Priest Pritchard, namely, Opal Wall, Jesse Walker, James Pritchard, Bill Joe Pritchard, Jessie Jean Ross all together a one tenth (1/10) interest; and to the children of my deceased son, Grover Pritchard namely, Luddie Fautner and Ruth Henderson, together a one tenth (1/10) interest.

I further direct that should any of my children die leaving no descendants, that that part of my property that would have gone to said child, shall be divided among my descendants as the law directs.

Should any of my children or other descendents or any one else undertake to set aside this, as my last will and testament, then, it is my will and desire that he or she or they shall not have any property of any kind, real or personal, that I might be seized and possession of.

I hereby nominate and appoint my son, Edward Pritchard together with my daughter, Frances Pritchard Myracle, my joint executor and executrix respectively sol executrix and executor of this, my last will and testament.

In witness hereof, I have hereunto set my hand, in the presence of E.E. Wright and R. A. Crider called by me and witnessed and each of whom, have attested this will in my Presence and in the presence of each other, this the 7th day of June, 1941.

I, Joe Williams Clerk of the county court of the aforesaid state and county, hereby certify that the above and foregoing is true and complete copy of the original of the last will and testament of J.G. Pritchard, deceased; and after being duly proven by the oaths of E.E. Wright and R.A. Crider, the two subscribing witnesses thereto, was by the court declared to be the last will and testament of J.F. Pritchard deceased, and ordered to be recorder and filed, which was accordingly done.
This June 8, 1942.
