Biography

Ollie F. Pritchard was born at her parents' farm in DeKalb County, Georgia, USA, on 20 February 1887. She was the daughter of Thomas A. Pritchard (1861-1935) and his wife, Ina Paulina Wesley (1870-) of Rockdale County, Georgia. On the 1 June 1900 US Census, Ollie F Pritchard was recorded as a white female, age 13, single, living with her parents, aged 38 & 30 years old, with 2 younger brothers, ages 10 & 7, on their family farm in Militia Districts 637, 1327, Evans, Clarkston Clarkston town, DeKalb, Georgia, United States. Her father was a "Farmer". The Census also recorded that her parents were both Georgia natives; they had been married for 14 years and Ina Pritchard had had 3 children, all of whom were still living in June 1900. [1]

On 16 October 1910, presumably in DeKalb County, Georgia (no marriage record has been found), Ollie Pritchard married Lafayette Clark Snow (1881-1947), born 26 October 1881 in DeKalb County, Georgia. The couple had a farm in Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia, where they had 4 daughters: [2]

  1. Louise Snow, 1912–1995
  2. Margaret Snow, 1914–2011
  3. Marie Snow, 1916–2006
  4. Ollie Snow, 13 Oct 1918 - 19 Jan 1919

On 12 September 1918, La Fayette Clark Snow filed his mandatory WW I US Army Draft Registration Card. He declared he was born on 26 October 1881, being 37 years old. He was married to "Mrs. Ollie Snow," and a "Farmer". They were living on Rte. 3, Decatur, DeKalb, Georgia, USA. Physically he was of "medium build, black hair & blue eyes" and had no physical disabilities incompatible with Army service. Given his marital & fatherhood status, with multiple dependents, he was not drafted. [3]

Three months later, on 13 December 1918, tragedy struck the Snow family when Ollie (Pritchard) Snow passed away just 2 months after delivering her 4th baby girl. She was 31 years old. Her death closely followed that of Fayette C. Snow's mother, Nancy Fannie (Mitchell) Snow, who had died on 31 August 1918. Both were noted on the same page of Kelley's Chapel Methodist Church register in Panthersville, Decatur, Georgia.[4] Both women were buried at Kelleys Chapel Cemetery, Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia, USA.[5] Her baby daughter died shortly after New Years 1919 and was interred in her mother's grave as was often the case at that time and place. There is no Find A Grave Memorial for baby Ollie Snow (1918-1919).
